Octoberfest 5K Run in the Books!

Updated: Oct 24, 2023

We thank everyone who participated in the 5K Run on Saturday, October 7. The weather cooperated to produce a good running environment, and 147 runners ran and crossed the finish line! Special congratulations to Lion Heather Lacy's son, Eric, for the best time in the race.

Haddonfield Lions Club members Kevin Zelinsky and Heather Lacy deserve special acknowledgment for their hard work all year to coordinate the event. Thank you to the many Lions Club members who helped, not only with pre-race events, but also by attending and assisting, including Debbie Troy, who was the photographer for the event. Special thanks, too, to Boy Scout Troop 3064 and members of the Haddonfield Memorial High School Leo Club, who showed up in force, and to Lions District 16, who was extremely helpful in promoting the event.

The Lions partnered with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), which provided marketing and race resources. Half the revenue raised will be donated to JDRF. A shout-out to Mike Kennedy, who helped raise more than $7,500 in event sponsorship. The Lions Membership team kicked off their membership drive with a new Lions tote bag! Contacts were made with three potential new members, including a blind author who volunteered to be a speaker at a future Lion Club meeting. This 5K Run is now a major fundraiser for the Haddonfield Lions Foundation and produces approximately one-third of the revenue for the $30,000 that the Club donates back to the community annually.
