Leo Club Virtual Day of Service

Updated: Jan 24, 2021

This year Haddonfield Memorial High School Leo Club members couldn't gather in person for their annual MLK Day of Service project, but that didn't stop them from working together to make bandana bands for the Alicia Rose Victorious Foundation.

The Leo Club Advisor Maggie Gammie said the club first connected with the ARVF through an HMHS English teacher, Mrs. Dickstein-Hughes, who is the Youth Leadership Council Advisor for the organization. "Several HMHS students regularly volunteer with the ARVF," Gammie said. "it is a beloved cause around here!"

The organization's mission is to improve the lives of teens with life-threatening illnesses. The ARVF has partnerships with over 100 hospitals nationwide

to sponsor teen lounges and art carts, and distributes teen kits that contain gift cards, crafts, and other items.

The Leo Club has been selling bandanas and bandana bands for the ARVF for the past 5 years to align with Teen Cancer Awareness Week in the third week of January. "This year we planned this socially-distanced service project to make the bandana bands to go in the teen kits," Gammie said. "We will be coordinating a teen kit drive for the foundation in the spring."
